Mabel Arlene (Miller) Rahe, 92 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at Beatrice Health and Rehab Sunday night, September 8, 2013. She was born on November 25, 1920 on the "Rockford Lake" farm, Rockford, NE to Rev. Swigart and Eva (Terwilleger) Miller. After graduating from DeWitt High School in 1938, she worked in the Accounting Dept. of Petersen "Vise Grip" in DeWitt over 4 years before moving to Beatrice. Mabel married Vernon "Bud" Rahe on November 4, 1944 in Marysville, KS with her father performing the ceremony just before Bud left for Germany. After World War II ended, Bud returned to Beatrice where they made their home until his death in September of 2009.
Mabel was with the State Savings & Loan Company for 10 years, 11 1/2 years with Lentz Motors, then worked for 20 years with Norris Public Power in their district office in Beatrice until her retirement in 1986.
Mabel was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice since transferring her membership in 1981 from the Church of the Brethren. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 44 years, and former member of the Beatrice Women's Bowling Association for 60 years. She enjoyed bowling, and traveling.
Survivors include her brother Kenneth Miller of Hemet, CA; sisters Olive Pearl Schierkolk of Colorado Springs, CO and Viola Arterburn of Refugio, TX; brother and sister in laws Lowell and Alberta Rahe of Beatrice, and Arline Rahe of DeWitt; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon "Bud" Rahe (2009); 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Reverend Bill Shamer and Sharon Schuster, PMA officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 PM Friday in the Oak Grove Cemetery, DeWitt. The body will lie in state Thursday from 12-9:00 PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice and at the church one hour preceding the services on Friday.
